In this article, the problems concerning the actual situation of
anthropology in Iran are discussed. First, some different terms which concern a single discipline are talked over. Then, it is considered that each of these terms and concepts has developed under the influence of certain cultural atmospheres and some specific intellectual tendencies. The other subjects discussed in this article are the relationship between anthropology and ethnography, the methodology of anthropology, and applied anthropology .
It is the methodology that mainly makes anthropology different from sociology. A simple comparison between the social sciences and
the natural sciences reveals the problems and difficulties of the social
science studies.
It seems that besides the theoretical problems of the social sciences, there are some practical problems in applied anthropology too. Applied anthropology may provide a sort of solution from the theoretical and practical points of view, which in turn can lead to a more effective method.
