The main objective of this article is both to introduce the social anthropology and development policy comprehensively and to clarify the status of applied anthropology in 1980s . Since this article investigates and reviews the origin, background, and history of applied anthropology and it also tries to survey this trend from various and sometimes opposite points of view, it may be considered significant. It also seeks to clarify the scope of applied anthropological studies.
Hence, the development and changes occurred in applied anthropology since 1930s , along with the main features and characteristics of any period in this respect, have been thoroughly and clearly probed in this article. Therefore, the writer explains the role and function of applied anthropology in 1930s and 1940s . Its applications by the colonial governments through which they control and administer the oppressed societies are mentioned too.
