Abstract

This research tries to tackle on one of the current issues concerning the theoretical realm of contemporary sociology, i.e., taking into
consideration "culture" in the logical methods of understanding contemporary societies. Not only does Giddens (1990) but also Bauman (1992) and Inglehart (1997), in a sense, recognize the uniqueness of
contemporary societies of which Inglehart specifically refers to the role of "culture" in new social formations. Presenting a critque on the theoretical as well as methodological shortcomings of Inglehart's, Giddens's and Bauman's works, this paper, however, takes one step
further and specifies how the discourse of "culture" and its role in new social formations should be theoretically incorporated into the methods
of understanding current social changes. For this purpose, the researcher enters into the process of conceptualizing the cultural relations through which some new concepts that help to design a new theoretical framework for understanding the characteristics of contemporary societies are introduced
